"Gary, middle management" original acrylic painting on wooden cradle board

Gary has seen things. Not exciting things, quarterly reviews, mostly. Restructures that didn't affect him but probably should have. He's been in middle management long enough to know that the best strategy is to look like you're thinking deeply about something at all times.

Painted in red, yellow and blue. Nothing else. No blending, no shortcuts, no performance review. The texture in the fur is built entirely from short directional marks, the same three colours as all my other work, and applied with the kind of focused repetition Gary himself would probably respect.

A chimpanzee face, close up, slightly knowing, painted by a self-taught artist from Yorkshire in the gaps between his own career in marketing tech. The irony is not lost on me.
